OH MY BACK bedside cupboards
My back is a large part of why I finally chose to stay home and work.
I did love my *real* job but I was coming home daily in so much pain it wasnt worth while anymore.
The other day as I began working on these bedside cabinets I bent over to pick something up.
Back issues are quite normal for me as I have been dealing with them for a
large part of my life and I am weakest holding things in front of me.
As I started to stand up I gave a little cough and a shooting pain ripped across my back.
Needless to say I continued to work on these precious little guys,
but George was home standing over me making sure I took it easy.
We found them on our recent Thrift Shop Hop which turned into
a true Garage Sale Grind as we treated one lucky lady to a day filled with fabulous yard sales.
I painted them in old white, added new legs, and glass hardware.
The interior cabinets have been lined,
along with the drawers.
And here are a couple of the new treasures that can be found at
firstfinds etsy shop
Xmas rush order!
So I got a phone call regarding one of my items for sale on CL from a guy who wanted to
surprise his daughter by re-doing her room. She is 19 and coming back home from school.
I happened to have had these two guys sitting in the garage and told him I could have them done
by Sun before Christmas (This was the prior Monday, btw!) He gave me free rein on what to do, but just keeping it in the white/neutral family..
Sorry for the garage pics. I couldn't stage these because I literally just finished when the customer
drove up to take them home.
Use your imagination!
This dresser was a American of Martinsville that I have kept pushing aside for 8 months! So glad I waited! It's a beautiful well made piece.
I have already done the twin to this one...here.....He told me he wanted it to coordinate with the dresser.
Told me to paint whatever I felt like doing.
I love the cherry blossom stencil (Royal Design Studio for the stencil and their bronze stencil creme)
and thought it would perk up the blah flat front. Their stencils are great to work with and I
absolutely love the creme. A little goes a long way. This cherry blossom stencil comesin 5 different sheets so you can pick and choose how you want the branches laid out.
The top was done in a dark walnut.
I made my own chalk paint using "Divine Pleasure" by Behr. It's such a pretty white.

TWINS a pair of single beds
I found this set of bunk beds at a yard sale this past weekend.
While we were talking price with the owner,
daddy called my cell to let me know the cost of my motorbike repair.
I have a trials bike but only get to take it out about once a year.
This years trip is coming up fast, but Im unsure if I can get away or not.
Needless to say the bike has to be ready regardless, which means a new part.
So while getting the price from daddy, the price for these beds was still up in the air.
I pulled some cash out of my wallet (what I was willing to pay) and handed it to George
to finish the negotiations.
Well before I was off the phone the beds were being loaded into the van.
Now the posts connecters were either missing or broken and only one post finial remained
so they couldnt easily be used as bunkbeds anymore.
I wish I had a room to stage these in, I could have done them up wonderfully.
There were a few cross bars but the supports on the rails were installed,
well well just say *badly*
It took a few hours to fix the supports and cut more cross bars, as well as a few other fixes.
Once they were fixed it was just a matter of deglossing, priming, and finally painting.
This pretty pair is currently listed on the AVAILABLE page.
Buying some Reconditioned Tools
Browsing the LumberJocks forum, I have found that Hitachi sells reconditioned tools for pretty good deals compared to buying brand new. Reconditioned tools are pretty much new tools, they are tools that have been returned by customers to the retailer. They are all tools that could have had defects, been returned by an unsatisfied customer, returned after a weekend project, some returned brand new just because. When a tools is returned to a retailer, they cannot just put it back on the shelf, instead they have return it to the company. When this happens the company, in my case Hitachi, fixes whatever was wrong with the tools and sells them at discounted prices.
I think this is a great way to buy like new tools for great prices. The tools come with the full factory warranty.
I ordered two tools from Hitachi, both of which have great reviews on different websites like Amazon and LumberJocks. I bought the Hitachi DS18DFL 18V 1.5Ah Lithium Ion Driver Drill for $109 and the Hitachi NT50AE2 2" 18-Gauge Brad Nailer for $53 since both of mine where stolen.
Seems like a good deal to me, we will see once the tools get here!

More drip pots
I love making these drip pots. I start with plain old terra cotta pots, prime them (the terra
cotta is very porous and soaks up a lot of paint) and then paint. You can use
chalk paint, spray paint, latex or even milk paint. I prefer the chalk paint and then latex.
If you look at he "Herbs" pot below, that is a mish-mash of paint. The yellow is latex,
the gray is CeCe's Vermont Slate and the white is also CeCe's. I like the chalk because
you can smooth it out and distress it. Latex is pretty one dimensional.
The red pot with the white dripsv and the black and pink is all latex.

BEFORE AFTER recaping projects
For the very last post of this year Im sharing 20 of the most dramatic Before and Afters of 2012.
Sometimes its the color that can makes these dramatic changes but my favorite by far is when I can
transform the whole shape of a piece into something new.
Some of them are your favorites and some are mine, but be sure to take your time looking through
these photos to notice all the unique changes that have taken place and see what is possible.
A year can seem to go by so quickly and yet if you can look back, it can amaze you
with what you have accomplished.
