Lathe Maintenance and Wood Turning OnLine

Good Everyone,

One area of turning that is really important is maintenance of the lathe and your turning tools. I havent blogged about this in a while and its time for an update. But first here is a word about one of my favorite online turning forums Wood Turning Online:

Wood Turning OnLine is a large wood turning forum that has not only messages and discussion about wood turning, it has a lot of excellent information about how to turn, projects, and a lot of instructional videos. Hey, even the advertisements are worth looking at! With wood turning being rather a niche within general wood working, it can be a little difficult at times to source out information about new tools, techniques, etc, and I find that Wood Turning Online serves this purpose well. Theres always something new and the forum and website are kept up to date. You can see the site without joining but to actively participate in the discussions you have to register and I have as I think its a worth while thing to do.

Ok, Ive done my bit for the wood turning world.

Lets see a show of hands: How many of you have dressed your tool rest this week? Hmmm...I see one lone hand in Lithuania. Wood Turning Online is featuring a really great video about this on YouTube this week. Take a look:

(For my international guests: if you have trouble with spoken English, I think this is presented clearly enough that you can guess how to do this by just watching the video)

There is a lot of other information on Wood Turning Online and if you follow the link above youll come right to it.

Have a great day turning,

VW

Online Home Decor Resources

Im working on finishing up my project for the first round of Creating with the Stars  Only a few more days! I really like how it is coming along, hopefully youll love it too! Voting opens this Monday (Ill share more details a little later)!

I live about 3 hours from a big city, were not in the middle of no where, but home decor items are definitely lacking. Luckily, online shopping has brought everything right to my doorstep!

Here are a few of my favorite places to shop online:

Crate and Barrel - I love a lot of their textile lines, especially Marimekko prints, they are fun and bold! Although I havent bought any furniture there, Ill definitely be looking at few sofas here when we are ready for a new one (maybe this, this, this or this). They also have a few upholstery sale events, so that could be a good time to buy!

West Elm

Great textiles and furniture! I love browsing the sale section :) They also have upholstery grade fabric, so if you are looking for something more durable, browse the selection here (it also comes packaged really well!)

Urban Outfitters

Great accessories and I love the rug selection too, especially this one and this one

honey comb glass pendant
magical thinking crewel ikat pillow
Finally, Fabric.com

My first stop for fabric is here because they consistently have a great selection and prices!

This is just a brief list, but definitely some of my favorites! Do you have any favorites that arent on my list? I love finding new resources!

and looking for more online resources? Danielle Oakey has a great list here!
